Dreams of Humanity

ARTIST STATEMENT

Since I was a little girl, I have always been moved by the smallest signs of sadness, human pain, and human despair. I was always attuned to reading emotions in people and animals. Eyes, facial expressions, and hands as forms of communication always attract my attention. The deep, soulful eyes in people--like kids, elders, workers, and refugees--seem to seek empathy. Art to me is a way to set down on canvas that quiet dialogue in an attempt to draw more viewers into a compassionate appreciation of people in need. Oil painting is a forgiving medium that gently allows me to rework the canvas until I reach a kind of harmony between the soft paste of the paint and the tender souls that take shape on my canvases. Thanks to Patricia Bahamonde’s encouragement and support, I embarked on this journey, hand in hand to contribute with a grain of sand to the ever-growing storm of support for impoverished families in search of a “dream of humanity.” I chose to donate the paintings to the Global Refugee Relief Fund because my travels around the world have exposed me to the immediate, essential needs of so many who live with dignity even in the most rugged environments and toughest challenges. The Global Refugee Relief Fund proved to be an irresistible inspiration that prompted me to put together this showcase. I have the greatest respect for PATRICIA and her team. Also, many thanks to MANNY’S for the generous support offered, as well as to the DOS BANDOLEROS duo. This endeavor is part of an inspirational vision of “Dreams of Humanity”.
